Susan Finlay / Counselling with Sue
- Whitstable, United Kingdom
I am currently studying for my Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills, with a particular interest in mental health, emotional wellbeing and neurodiversity.
My background is in Special Educational Needs (SEN), where I have worked closely with young people with a range of additional needs, supporting their communication, emotional wellbeing, confidence and day-to-day experiences within education. This experience has taught me the importance of listening without judgement, adapting the way we communicate and recognising that everyone experiences and expresses themselves differently.
I am particularly passionate about creating safe, accepting and inclusive spaces where neurodivergent individuals feel able to be themselves, communicate in ways that work for them and feel genuinely heard and understood. I believe that support should be centred around the individual rather than expecting them to fit into a particular mould.
Through my counselling studies, I hope to build on the skills and experience I have developed within SEN and deepen my understanding of emotional wellbeing, human behaviour and therapeutic relationships. I am committed to continuing to learn, reflect on my practice and develop the skills needed to support people with empathy, compassion and respect.
